Please join us in writing letters to Judge Liliana S. DeAvila-Silebi.  She will be sentencing George Hartwig for his heinous crimes on January 27th, 2012.  Our goal is to have the Judge sentence this beast to the maximum and consecutive sentences, rather than the minimum and concurrent sentences. 

Louisa’s abuser not only pled guilty to all 10 counts, including 2 counts of attempted murder, he then had the audacity to beg for leniency.  He asked for the minimum sentences allowed and to serve them concurrently. Instead of up to 68 years – he wants 10-20. If the Judge takes the time served in the local jail into consideration and the fact that most criminals only serve about 85% of their sentences, he could be out of jail in as little as 5 years!

Please help us stop this outrage, George was never brought to trial or sentenced for what he did to Denise. He was out without bail when he shot her sister. He got away with that Scott free!

Urge the judge to sentence him to serve the maximum time for the 2 most serious crimes he just plead out to, which would be 40 years.  Also, urge the judge to make the sentences consecutive.  If he serves the sentences consecutively he won’t be out for about 30 years.

Louisa will never recover and did not receive any leniency from George Hartwig.  The least we can do for her make sure that George Hartwig doesn’t get leniency either.

Have you noticed whenever a problem exists- our government finds a way to set up a bureaucracy to fill the need. Up goes a new agency, and a machine is created. It’s a political machine;  jobs are filled with cronies and monies is funneled into funding yet another big business with the sole purpose to grow more jobs but itself get little done which was intended in the first place.

I’m not against creating jobs, but ‘do nothing jobs’ at the expense of victims is unconscionable especially when there are thousands of us out there who are working for free to assist victims and are thwarted by these agencies who are putting victims at risk.

I am getting fed up with the salaries of these folks remaining high while there are shrinking funds to actually help victims. Much like charities – the lion’s share of the funds go to running the enterprise rather than to those in need! Enough is enough, I say we expose this exploitation of limited funds at the expense of victims!

Public oversight will stop the exploitation of already limited funds at the expense of victims. A coalition of independent women’s groups have had enough too.

The TMU WOMEN’s Coalition founded the National Domestic Violence Oversight Committee NDVOC.com. We are a non-partisan volunteer group determined to reform domestic violence and stalking victim resources and public policy so that no victim is left behind.

URGENT: WEBMASTER NEEDED. The purpose of the NDVOC web site is to serve as a forum for survivors to share their experiences and rate victim service providers in the United States. The goal of this site is to hold victim service providers, courts and public safety agencies accountable and to ensure the needs of victims are met.

According to Alexis Moore of Survivors in Action, This is desperately needed. “I still remember like yesterday being turned away and ignored by the DV shelter, National Stalking Resource Center and other national, state and local crime victim agencies wondering where do I go to file complaints for being re-victimized?” Today after talking to thousands of victims across the country with the same complaint—NDVOC is vital in the efforts to reforming victim resources and ensuring that no victim is left behind”..

Maria DiBari of Tri-County Crisis Center agrees there is no oversight and no one is watching those who should be watching where the DV funds are going.

Together with TMU and others we have been three years forming this committee and now we need volunteers across the country to make it happen.

Did you know that one of the actresses in the Harry Potter films, Afshan Azad, (who played the very lovely Padma Patil), was threatened with death and attacked by her father Abdul and her brother Ashraf Azad in an attempted honor killing? The actress lives in Manchester and was studying at school. This attack happened in late May but was only announced yesterday.  We now know that her family was angry because of her relationship with a Hindu man (she is Muslim), but most of the original articles about the story failed to mention this motive for the attack. Afshan is lucky that she lives in England because they have the best police and law enforcement understanding of honor killings. I doubt Afshan will ever again be safe at home or even near home. Hat tip to author Nonie Darwish for calling this to my attention last night.

SANTA ANA – A Washington, D.C., man has been sentenced to 17 and a half years in federal prison after admitting to arranging for two teenage girls to travel to the West Coast to work as prostitutes in several locations, including Orange County.

Dwayne Lawson, 29, pleaded guilty in a Santa Ana federal courtroom Thursday to one count of sex trafficking of children but admitted in a plea agreement to directing two teenage girls to engage in prostitution, prosecutors said.

Police took Lawson into custody in April of last year, shortly after Los Angeles Police Department investigators arrested one of the two girls, a 17-year-old, on prostitution charges.

Authorities identified the girl as a runaway from Florida, determining that she worked for a pimp they later determined to be Lawson, who reportedly went by several other aliases, including “Staydown” and “Christopher Tyrone Young.”

Prosecutors say Lawson contacted the girl through MySpace in the fall of 2008, promising to make her a star. Lawson in his plea deal admitted to giving the girl a bus ticket from Florida to Las Vegas, where he picked her up to drive her to Orange County.

Lawson had the girl work as a prostitute in several cities, authorities say, including Anaheim, Pomona, Montclair and Las Vegas.

Lawson in his plea agreement also admitted to driving the second female victim from Miami to Orange County in 2008 and having her work as a prostitute in “various counties and states.”

“The young people in this case were victimized and exploited in a horrific way,” United States Attorney Andre Birotte Jr. said in a written release. “This sentence demonstrates that sex traffickers and pimps will suffer severe consequences for their reprehensible conduct.”

My colleagues, Soona Samsani, and Rabbi Daniel Radamuz, have just alerted me to the fact that The Friends of Camp Ashraf are holding a press conference today, August 14th, at the UN Plaza from 11am to 1pm. They are speaking on behalf of the endangered members of this Camp, which is located on the border between Iran and Iraq.

Samsani is an Iranian Muslim woman who wears hijab and who has organized a Senate Press briefing and a panel at the United Nations in which I’ve participated. I have written about these events elsewhere, here and here.

Please note: In Sudan, non-Muslim women are being punished if they do not dress according to Islamist standards.

All infidels, including the People of the Book (Jews and Christians) are an endangered species in Muslim countries. Always have been.

Below you’ll find a link to a television news report, as well as a newspaper article concerning the bust of a New Jersey-based sex trafficking ring. If the news accounts are accurate, this ring was in operation for nearly two decades! Additionally, the pimp, Allen Brown, Jr. went by the name Prince, and allegedly had a throne in his home and wore a crown (visit the links to see photos). His mother, niece, and girlfriend have also been indicted — so notice how sex trafficking can be a family enterprise.

The especially good news about this case is that Brown is not only being charged with promotion of prostitution, but human trafficking as well. All too often men who pimp women who are U.S. citizens are not recognized as sex traffickers. Fortunately this is not the case here. Hopefully this will mark the beginning of a new trend. Remember pimps recruit, harbor, transport, and provision persons for purposes of commercial sexual exploitation — that’s sex trafficking. They also typically use a wide range of physical and psychological coercion — that’s a severe form of human trafficking as defined by federal law and prosecutable.

Congratulations to the New Jersey officials who investigated this case and who are bringing the charges. Now, let’s hope the trafficking victims are getting the assistance they undoubtedly need.
