Stop the Tamkeen Law

Dear Puma PAC,

From The Guardian:

“Afghanistan has quietly passed a law permitting Shia men to deny their wives food and sustenance if they refuse to obey their husbands’ sexual demands, despite international outrage over an earlier version of the legislation which President Hamid Karzai had promised to review.

The new final draft of the legislation also grants guardianship of children exclusively to their fathers and grandfathers, and requires women to get permission from their husbands to work.

“It also effectively allows a rapist to avoid prosecution by paying ‘blood money’ to a girl who was injured when he raped her,” the US charity Human Rights Watch said.”

Today’s PROWL is to contact Sec. Clinton and ask her to stop this law.

Thank you and Good Luck,

Murphy.

The Women of Camp Ashraf

by Phyllis Chesler

Excerpt:

I am—finally!—taking a long weekend away. And, even if it rains, (let it snow, what do I care?), I will be happily ensconced, reading book after book, surrounded by views of the blue bay, water, water everywhere and more than a drop to drink!

Therefore, I cannot attend an important press conference which is taking place today.

My colleagues, Soona Samsani, and Rabbi Daniel Radamuz, have just alerted me to the fact that The Friends of Camp Ashraf are holding a press conference today, August 14th, at the UN Plaza from 11am to 1pm. They are speaking on behalf of the endangered members of this Camp, which is located on the border between Iran and Iraq.

Samsani is an Iranian Muslim woman who wears hijab and who has organized a Senate Press briefing and a panel at the United Nations in which I’ve participated. I have written about these events elsewhere, here and here.

Open Season on Christians in the Islamic World

Open Season on Christians in the Islamic World

by Phyllis Chesler
Pajamas Media
August 12, 2009

Excerpt:

For centuries, Muslims committed genocide against Hindus in India and what is now Pakistan. Today, in Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria, Kenya, Turkey, Pakistan, Gaza, and Iran, it’s open season on Christians.

Lubna Hussein, the Sudanese journalist who is facing 40 lashes for “indecency” because she wore trousers—has just been barred from leaving Sudan.

Interestingly, Hussein is a Christian, not a Muslim; she is also a former UN worker. (For the sake of this lawsuit, she immediately quit her UN job which would have provided her with immunity from such prosecution). The Sudanese Islamist authorities are not allowing her to do an interview in Lebanon. Sarkozy, who has called for a ban of the burqa in France, has invited Hussein to Paris. Please note: In Sudan, non-Muslim women are being punished if they do not dress according to Islamist standards.

All infidels, including the People of the Book (Jews and Christians) are an endangered species in Muslim countries. Always have been.

New Jersey-based sex trafficking ring

Lisa Thompson

Below you’ll find a link to a television news report, as well as a newspaper article concerning the bust of a New Jersey-based sex trafficking ring. If the news accounts are accurate, this ring was in operation for nearly two decades! Additionally, the pimp, Allen Brown, Jr. went by the name Prince, and allegedly had a throne in his home and wore a crown (visit the links to see photos). His mother, niece, and girlfriend have also been indicted — so notice how sex trafficking can be a family enterprise.

The especially good news about this case is that Brown is not only being charged with promotion of prostitution, but human trafficking as well. All too often men who pimp women who are U.S. citizens are not recognized as sex traffickers. Fortunately this is not the case here. Hopefully this will mark the beginning of a new trend. Remember pimps recruit, harbor, transport, and provision persons for purposes of commercial sexual exploitation — that’s sex trafficking. They also typically use a wide range of physical and psychological coercion — that’s a severe form of human trafficking as defined by federal law and prosecutable.

Congratulations to the New Jersey officials who investigated this case and who are bringing the charges. Now, let’s hope the trafficking victims are getting the assistance they undoubtedly need.

Abolition!

Lisa
